Juliet Top from Love Notions

Another Love Notions pattern, I do love their patterns, they are so versatile and the instructions are easy to follow. I made their Laundry Day Tee last year, my first ever stretch fabric make and it went like a dream.

The Juliet top was also a very enjoyable make, I used some bamboo that I had bought from Pound Fabrics which was a bit of a challenge due to the curling of the edges but on the whole, was good to sew with. It was a pretty banana yellow colour with white outlines of elephants. I love elephants so couldn’t resist this fabric once I’d seen it.

The pattern was a little more complicated than the very simple LDT as it has a yoke, with a choice of plain, mock button placket and pin tucks with mock button placket. I found a tutorial on YouTube from Lifting Pins & Needles which clarified a couple of things I was a bit confused by. Mainly the different types of yoke and how to do them. Once I’d watched her making her gorgeous version with the pin tucks, I felt confident to go. I opted for just the mock placket and short sleeves as I only had a metre of fabric in total. I was happy with how I handled the neckline, it’s not easy with stretch fabrics and I was pleased how it turned out.

Definitely a pattern I will revisit at some point.
