The Sofia Dress

I bought this magazine for this pattern, I just thought it looked a really lovely dress pattern. However I underestimated my ability to understand a dressmaking pattern and to start with, I really struggled to figure out what size to make and how to put it all together. I did make a toile first, just of the bodice and thought I was happy with the fit but once it was all finished, it felt too big and I just didn’t like the look of it in the fabric I had used. I didn’t like the elasticated waistline, it looked odd without a belt so I made a belt from the fabric. Other people have told me that the dress looks nice but I feel that they are just being kind because they know it is something I made myself. I just don’t feel right it in and that’s not going to change. It’s still hanging in my wardrobe and I have worn it twice but I think it will end up being donated.

It was a good learning experience though and I would possibly make it again in a smaller size and different fabric.
